☆ …outing (1st) to the theatre… with a toddler! ☆

My Mommy heart is happy.

My Mommy heart is still smiling!

This past weekend, the National Arts Festival treated Adam and I to a delightful LIVE theatre piece –The Gruffalo.

Ella & Aidan also joined us on this adventure.

With our boys before the show!

The South African version of Tall Stories’ UK West End hit, The Gruffalo, opened on Sunday 15.01.2017 at The Savoy Theatre in The Bay.

Did Adam enjoy the performance?  Utterly!

Did he behave? He most certainly did!

Was he actively involved in the audience participation bits? Absolutely!

As mommy and artistic practitioner, this makes me proud.

Yeah, cliché I know…his mom loves theatre arts and his dad loves sport, so we are both waiting to see which direction he heads towards. (insert LOL here… looks like I am winning!)

The excitement of each and every kid is so contagious, as we make our way to our seats.

This took me back into time.

Back when I was on the flip side behind the curtain getting ready to perform to kids and entertain them for little over an hour after the show.

Adam loved the performance. He really loved the characters and this was a stunning piece of work to have him experience his first visit to a theatre.

He joined in the fun because Director Tara Notcutt made sure the kids and parents could stay involved through some fine audience participation.

A quick-witted mouse encounters a few predators who seem to think he might make a tasty treat. As he ventures deeper into the deep dark wood, stumbling across a hungry fox, a not-so-wise owl, and a slimy snake, spinning ever-extraordinary yarns about the scary, scaly gruffalo, he quickly realises that the hungry beast he has been talking of isn’t imaginary after all.

This story book comes alive with sassy and cheeky little characters to entertain your little one.

Ayanda Nondlwana plays the oh so fluffy Gruffalo and Nombasa Nqoqo portrays a loveable Mouse. My absolute favourite was the Salsa Snake played by Sisonke Yafele.

I quite enjoyed how these bold characters are uniquely styled with some real South African flavour and recommend Moms and Dads to take their little ladies and lads to see this show.

The costumes were fun and enough to stretch Adam’s imagination.

So I thought I’d put together a short list of things to consider:

  • Choose something the little one will enjoy!
  • If you are worried your child will need the toilet mid-way through, then book  or choose an aisle seat to make things easier for you all.
  • Be prepared to leave if necessary, you never know with a toddler.
  • Encourage a nap before the show, to you don’t have to deal with a crabby patty while sitting in the theatre.
  • Take a snack along (just in case)…
  • The merchandise stands can be a horrendous, so maybe it’s wise to decide beforehand about whether you are happy to buy something and take some cash along.
  • Be nice, its children, they still need to learn.  A Dad in front of us was real nice, he actually apologised beforehand that his daughter might stand up on the chair if she gets excited.  I really appreciated the gesture because he was considered, but I really wanted to “high five” him because he knows his kid so well.
  • Treat it like an adventure, it’s a new experience you little lady or lad might love or might now love, so don’t fret if they’re not into it.  Again, you never know with a toddler…
  • Encourage your child to play the role of “grown-up theatre-goer”. As a theatre performer, etiquette is so important to me, so I plan to teach Adam yeah I know he is young but it’s never too early to learn good manners! Right?!
  • Use the performance as launch pad to enhance simple daily lessons.

This classic picture book The Gruffalo, by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler LIVE on stage is a must see for your little ones.

Look at Adam, no fear!  All he wanted to do was hug the Gruffalo.

Thank you NAF for this memorable afternoon.

Be sure to follow The Gruffalo online for tour updates!

Until next time…

chocolate night in…that kinda evening… ♡ It’s a “BROW”time… don’t you think?!

It’s Friday evening.

Around 19:00 and I am getting ready to go to bed.

Am I tired?  Not that tired, but I fear if I leave my house you might see my eyebrow situation…(insert embarrassment here!)

So this year sees me starting a brow journey … I am on a serious mission, a quest for fabulous brows, because It’s a “BROW” time… don’t you think?!

Let me start with sharing a little secret, I hate full brows. Mine in particular…

And as the trends over the last years have gone from shaving brows off completely and drawing just a line (insert LOL here), to thin plucked brows and even extreme OTT filled browns with black eyeliner, things in the brow department has been a wee bit confusing.

Fast forward to 2017…

Threading, waxing, plucking, filling with pencil, gels and powder… these sisters might have to take a back seat as Microblading takes over.

While threading is a cheaper option, it ain’t the best option as it could cause damage to the skin tissue around the eye area. Microblading typically lasts 1-3 years, depending on skin type (normal, oily, dry), age (youthful/mature), but ALAS! It is not a pocket friendly option.

For now filling my either plucked or waxed brows works for me, but O M Geeeeeeee let me tell you how I tried to grow out my full brow and failed successfully.

IMG_20161230_103639_326[1].jpg

I just couldn’t deal with the “dirty & untidy” look.

I mean I tried, I really did!

But I just couldn’t.

You see the thing is, growing out your complete brow could take around anywhere from 6 weeks to 6 months.  In the meantime, there are a number of things you can do to not look beastly. Be patient and remember, it takes 6 months to make a Rolls-Royce and 13 hours to make a Toyota!

So I thought I’d give you a few pointers in case you have a bit more will power to grow out yours.

  • 1. The first step is to LEAVE THEM ALONE!! Do not touch them at all. Hide your tweezers, hide your brow razor and throw away your wax strips.
  • 2. You’re going to have to leave the house and you may feel like everyone is staring at you, visit your hairstylist and cut some bangs to cover up your brows.(PS. Don’t try to cut your bangs yourself and also maybe Summer is not a good idea, you know heat and sweat and all…)
  • 3. Your face will thank you, dress up in bright colours to take the attention off the facial features.
  • 4. Experiment With A Brow Serum.  Virgin Coconut oil and an eyebrow brush works real well too. You know like brushing your hair stimulates the roots, same same!
  • 5. Fill in with Brow Powders as you wait.

The BH Cosmetics brow palette has been my go-to with a super lasting and superb blending for a natural effect.

This must-have brow palette is ideal for brow lovers.

The versatile brow palette features 8 brow powders and 4 wax shades. You can use the powders individually or mix and match for a custom shade. Brow wax can be used alone, as a primer to help keep brow powder in place for those with sparse brows, or to tame unruly brows.

So to grow out or to fill?

It’s a “brow” time you decide, don’t you think?

Halloween facey 1, 2, 3 SNAP!

So with Halloween around the corner everyone is getting ready for dressing up and getting their scary on…

I decided to play around around with a few Halloween looks using the following products:

  • Kryolan
  • Essence_cosmetics
  • Revlon
  • BH Cosmetics
  • WetnWild

It really took about 15 minutes to create this look.

Some pretty eyeshadow and …. a spiderweb!

If you want something simple for Halloween, this look is easy enough for anyone to pull off.

1st I did a basic quick prep using the WetnWild neutralizing concealer to whisk away some redish breakouts I have.

Then blended my Kryolan foundation creme.

Next I used my Essence white pencil and my definition brush to blend some matte black and then some white eyeshadow to create the first bit of this semi-dramatic look.

Then I tried my free hand drawing to create the spiderweb, using the Essence eyeliner pen was super great.

I then lined my lips with black shadow and added the red liner to create a blended lip colour along with my Revlon Blackcherry lipstick.

I then completed the look by doing two different eyeshadow blends using the BH Cosmetics Day & Night Palette.

I asked my blog mentor Just Ella Bella what she thinks about this look and she responded saying …”Dis nou nie vir Greenaces nie, But awesome and vampy for Halloween..”

What do you think?

#ECMeetUp

Helloooo my lovlies ♡

Things have been a wee bit crazy(understatement) in the “I want to be a blogger” department…                               but oh so rewarding!

Today I attended the annual bloggers #ECMeetUp *insert  J O Y  here*

It was once again fabulous!

Well done to my blog mentor/ “feeder offer”/friend/ butt kicker/ socks puller upper/ crafter and big haired person Ella and also prego fairy Luchae who pulled it off again.  I know it wasn’t easy but you are loved by a whole lota bloggers in the bloggersphere.  Not just because the goodie bags you put so much effort and love into was of the hook with amazing treats, but also because every single person left The Plantation with at least a teaspoon full of encouragement.  We definitely learned something from the talented Davene Prinsloo and Mandy Lee Miller.

I am also soooooo grateful to have won the branding consultation with Mandy to boost my online presence. Honestly, I don’t think it has sunken in yet.  I am excited and also scared.

I am officially not a kamma-kamma blogger anymore.

I am going to try my best at blogging.

I am going to push myself to write down my thoughts and share funny pics.  Am I mad?  Am I seeking attention?

Nope! Judge all you want, I am a creative who loves the fact that platforms like Facebook reminds us of funny things we said or thought was cool 7 years ago.

Someone who believes in digital memories.  Someone who has no problem with remembering, but finds great pleasure in creating these memories and attaching a few words to it to describe it.  Years from now I might not be able to see but the stories attached to the memories will go forward and share a piece of life on this beautiful and somehow taken for granted world we live in.

So yes, judge all you can if I take 88 pictures of my food before I eat it.

I am going to #WIN!

Some happy snaps captured at the #ECMeetUp:

‘This is a story about happiness’…

Today I woke up, enjoyed a cuppa coffee in bed served by hubby, got up and got ready to celebrate with Rob, Ella and Aidan.

Off we go to Uitenhage to celebrate Aidan’s 4th birthday at Riempies!

Colourful fun, glitter, trolls and a whole lota happy boys and girls.

Monkey Magic came to the rescue and teamed up with supermom Ella.

She opted for “A party in a box for twenty kids”.

So Tanya from Monkey Magic sorted themed décor with table covers, a personalised happy birthday banner, the cutest trolls polystyrene figurines. She also got creative with some themed party packs (which Ella filled).

You also get personalised digital invitations, cups, plates, serviettes, a balloon for each kid. Then you get a supershape foil balloon and two 18 inch foil balloons which you fill with helium.

Ella could then spend time with the funtastic cake idea of stacked waffles and cream!

She also got super crafty with these super cute heart crayons.

Adam had a blast st Aidan’s party!

We would be delighted to go back to Riempies anytime.

Happy Birthday Aidy boy ♡

☆ My kinda Date… ☆

Whether it’s first thing in the morning or midafternoon, we all need an energy boost at some point during the day.

If you’re like me and you have a little Adam who thinks sleep is only for birds…coffee is one solution bit you might need something with more sustenance.

These super yum energy bites are a total saver!

Loaded with nutrients, these no flop-no bake date balls are oh so tasty, easy to make and will really give you the energy boost you need.

Dates are super good not only the taste and texture, but it is also nutritional.

I got a recipe from Just Ella Bella but decided to add a few of my own favourite ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup dry pitted dates, finely chopped
  • ¼ cup Chia seeds
  • 2 tbsp sunflower seeds
  • 2 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 2 tbsp linseed
  • ¼ cup dried cranberries
  • 2 tsp virgin coconut oil
  • 2 tbsp almonds
  • 1 pack marie biscuits  (blended to powder or crushed)
  • Coconut
  • 2 tbsp vanilla essence

Instructions:

• blend marie biscuits until light and fluffy powder

• Mix coconut oil, dates and vanilla essence in a saucepan on a medium heat temperature

• Add seeds

• Add biscuit crumbs

• Mix well

•  Now use a teaspoon to measure a scoop for a bitesize

  1. • Roll into balls and place onto baking tray

• Sprinkle coconut

• Allow to set in the fridge for about 30 min

• Eat and Enjoy!

I know we aint birds but seeds are really healthy!

The chia and flax seeds – contains the valuable omega-3 fatty acid, essential amino acids, soluble fibers, and high amounts of calcium and magnesium.

Oats – are packed with fibers and unique antioxidants.

Lets not forget about chock full of healthy fats (Almonds and coconut oil REPRESENT) and protein.

So knock yourself out!

Try these and you will get hooked into the birdy life of seeds.

Let me know how it turns out!

You have any easy recipes you’d like to share?
